In support of the report, research was undertaken to explore three main topical areas as it pertains to business payments: current payment methods used, payment frustrations, and the future of payments. The research objectives were to understand key dimensions around: drivers of choice; frustrations; expectations; and payment innovation.

Ryan Grundy is the Lead of Industry Relations for Payments Canada and leads Relationship Management efforts for all non-Financial Institution players in the Canadian Payments Ecosystem including Paytech, Large Corporate, SME, and Government Segments. As part of his mandate, he leads public outreach and consultation to inform technical and regulatory development of Canada's first true Real Time Payments platform, supporting Payments Canada's position as a public purpose organization committed to strengthening the safety and soundness of core systems, facilitating innovation and competition, and promoting a stronger Canadian economy.
Jon Purther is Director of Market Insights for Payments Canada. Jon’s career encompasses more than 25 years of senior management experience in forensic research and strategic marketing management, including domestic and international assignments. With Payments Canada, he is currently spearheading a team involved in both Strategic Foresights and Market Research.
Prior to Payments Canada, Jon was Chief Operating Officer at Corbin Partners Inc. There he successfully led numerous integrated market research engagements, provided affidavit evidence / report submissions, and appeared as an expert witness in matters before regulators and the Court. Jon has also consulted on international expansion efforts and held senior management roles with reputable financial institutions, notably leading the team that set up and managed the online financial services of Ameritrade in Canada and the UK. Jon was also an executive with the brokerage arm of Canada Trust and performed product development and management roles for the investment division of TD Bank.
Stephen Yun is a Senior Analyst, Market Insights at Payments Canada, whose areas of focus include the Consumer Payment Methods and Trends and Payment Behaviour Tracking studies and leveraging research insights to create a consumer/business payments narrative and drive business action for his business partners. Stephen has more than 15 years of experience leading marketing and customer experience research. He has held progressively senior roles within marketing research on both the client and supplier side, serving different vertical markets (including financial services, consumer packaged goods, and educational services). He holds MBA and BBA degrees from the Schulich School of Business (York University) specializing in Marketing and Finance.
