It has been a busy few months since our Annual General Meeting and we are happy to announce some changes to our Board. Please join me in welcoming and extending a warm AFP Vancouver welcome to our newest board members, Travis Powell, Rob Nernberg and Matthew Goldsworthy.
Travis Powell joined our Board in August 2017 as Social Media & Communications Chair. His role is to build our social media presence and keep our membership updated through our website. Travis is Treasury Manager at Telus and recently became a CPA.
Rob Nernberg joined our Board in May 2017 as Membership Chair. This role takes the lead on growing membership for our chapter through various activities and initiatives. In addition, Rob also took the lead to organize our golf tournament this year. Rob is Vice-President, Corporate Cash Management at TD Securities.
Matthew Goldsworthy joined the Board in the fall of 2016 as our Programs Chair. He has been busy planning and organizing luncheon presentations for AFP Vancouver. His day job is at HSBC in the role of Assistant Vice-President of Global Liquidity and Cash Management.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our board members directly with your ideas for sessions, introductions for new members, or your thoughts on events or the website. We are always happy to hear from you.
While we are pleased to welcome new members to our board, we say farewell to others who have well served our membership for the last number of years
Don Weylie was been our Membership Director for the last several years. He worked hard to build our membership through various initiatives and was always there to help out with the hosting or registration duties at many of our events. We thank Don for all of his efforts.
Farewell also to Jackie Gray who has been on the board for the past five years. She first joined as Communications Director and most recently was Vice-President & Special Events Director. Jackie did a great job planning all of our networking, Christmas and golf events over the years. Thank you Jackie for all of your hard work.
Finally we bid farewell to Allan Chen who has been on the board for the past 11 years, first as Secretary and for the last 6 years as Programs Director. Allan recently moved to Victoria and has joined BC Pension Corporation. While he is no longer on the Board, we are pleased Allan is staying on as part of the Communications committee to manage our website and LinkedIn profile.
We wish all the best to our departing Directors and we thank them for all their hard work and dedication to our Association and to the treasury profession in general. Although, they will be missed on the Board, they are all continuing members and we will still see them at AFP Vancouver events !

Our annual golf tournament was held this year on Thursday June 22nd at University Golf Club. The weather in June can be unpredictable but we had a spectacular day and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was great success and everyone enjoyed a great day on the course.
Events like this don’t just happen … a lot of time and effort goes into the planning and execution. We had a new Chair coordinating our event this year and I would like to thank Rob Nernberg for taking the lead and delivering a great event with lots of new activities and sponsors. Thanks also to Fareen Mohan and Linda Cattermole from our Board for working so closely with Rob to make it happen. Thanks to all of our members and guests for coming out to golf and/or dine with us, thank you to all of the sponsors for supporting our event, and thank you to our volunteers for all your help. A special thanks to Vancouver Canucks for running the Putting Challenge and to Evan Merrier, our junior golfer, for generating some great competition on the 10th hole.
We had a lot of great prizes and every golfer went home with something thanks to our generous sponsors. In addition, special recognition goes to the following:
